So, you've got yourself an Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) and you're ready to hit the trails, but wait! Before you rev up that engine and kick up some dirt, it's important to make sure your ORV is in top-notch condition. Don't worry, maintaining your ORV doesn't have to be a drag.
Oil Filter
First things first, let's talk about oil. Just like your morning toast needs butter, your ORV needs oil to keep things running smoothly. Make sure to change the oil regularly to avoid any unwanted friction (we're talking about the engine, not your in-laws). Regular oil and filter changes are essential for maintaining your Polaris Ranger's engine health. See our chart below to view when Polaris recommends changing your oil!
Polaris does recommend changing both the oil & oil filter after 25 hours to properly break it in.
Spark Plugs
Spark plugs are like the life of the party for your ORV. Make sure they're in good condition and replace them if needed. You want your ORV to ignite the fun, not fizzle out like a damp firework.
Air Filter
Just like you need fresh air to keep going, your ORV needs a clean air filter to perform at its best. Check and replace the air filter regularly to ensure your ORV can breathe easy and conquer those off-road adventures.
A clean air filter is crucial for proper engine performance. Check and clean the air filter regularly, especially if you frequently drive in dusty or dirty conditions. Replace it if it's damaged or excessively dirty.
Brake Check
Don't forget about your brakes! A proper brake check is crucial for your safety and the safety of others. Make sure your brakes are in top shape so you can stop in the name of love (or a sudden obstacle on the trail).
With this maintenance guide and quick checklist, you'll be ready to tackle any off-road adventure with confidence. Remember, taking care of your ORV is not only important for its performance but also for your safety. So, grab your tools, put on your
Tires
Check the tire pressure before you hit the trails. Properly inflated tires will give you better traction and a smoother ride. Plus, you don't want to be the one stuck on the side of the trail with a flat tire, do you? (That's a flat-out no).
Keeping your tires in top shape is key for safety and performance. Give them a regular pressure check and make sure they're hitting that sweet spot PSI according to your manual. And don't forget to give your tires a once-over for any wear and tear - swap out those tired treads ASAP!
Cleaning
Keep your Polaris sparkling, inside and out! Give it a scrub to banish dirt, mud, and grime, protecting it from corrosion and damage. Don't forget to show the underside some love too!
Electrical
- Battery - Give those battery terminals a once-over for any sneaky corrosion trying to sneak in! Make sure they're snug as a bug in a rug. Keep an eye on that battery voltage regularly, and give it a juice up when needed to keep it from going flat!
- Lights and Signals - Regularly check all lights and signals, including headlights, taillights, turn signals, and brake lights. Replace any burnt-out bulbs or damaged wiring promptly.
Suspension
Inspect the suspension components for wear and damage. Pay special attention to shocks, springs, and bushings. Replace any worn or damaged parts to maintain a comfortable and controlled ride.
